Hi! I’m Lucy Knox, a freelance UX/UI designer and recent graduate in Interaction Design from Ulster University.

During my studies, I enjoyed working on branding, data visualisation and icon design. I have continued to develop these skills in my work.

I’m an enthusiastic and confident designer, who enjoys working in like-minded teams, who share a passion for designing and are always up for a bit of craic!

Skills

I work well in both teams and independently while being able to communicate efficiently about my designs and research. I’m also proficient in a selection of design softwares including Figma, Adobe softwares, Magic Patterns and more. I have also used a wide selection of research techniques such as wireframing, prototyping and working with design systems in previous projects. Within my placement year I got the opportunity to work with the fortune 500 company, Aflac NI in which I developed my research skills, one of which was conducting user tests with Agents in America. I also become proficient in new technologies such as Qualtrics, which I used to collect data about the application from and present it to the team bi-weekly.

My approach to AI

In my work, I have seen the growing influence of AI in design and the opportunities it creates to improve efficiency and problem-solving. I have used AI tools such as ChatGPT and Midjourney to support repetitive tasks and streamline my workflow, allowing me to focus more on creating meaningful user experiences. However, these experiences have also shaped my perspective on the importance of maintaining balance in its use.

I am mindful that over-reliance on AI can limit creativity and dilute the human insight that is essential for great design. Critical thinking and a deep understanding of user needs cannot be fully automated, reinforcing the importance of a designer’s role in keeping the user needs at the centre of every decision. Therefore, I will continue to use AI as a supportive tool within my design process, while ensuring that creativity, user-centred thinking and empathy remain at the core of my work.

Interests

I’m a coffee addict and some of my favourite coffee shops in Belfast are the Neighbourhood and Established. I love to run and completed my first half-marathon back in 2025 and I'm currently training for my next one. I’ve recently completed my second season of rugby and have been lucky enough to join such a supportive and joyful team, that I look forward to playing with each week.
